Class FAQ

  • YES! My speciality is creating classes for beginners. I only started my dance journey in 2020, so I remember what it was like to step into a class completely anxious, worried and totally in my head. My classes are curated to be welcoming and enjoyable for beginners, and anyone who just wants to learn in a fun, inclusive and safe space.

  • Dancing helps improve balance, flexibility, and coordination. Twerking can boost your confidence and help you appreciate how amazing your body is. Twerking can also help strengthen muscle in just about every part of your body and sculpt, tone and strengthen your glutes. Samba is a cardio dance so it will help improve your cardio. There’s also a lot of coordination involved and core engagement as you’ll work on your balance.

  • Twerking is a dance move that involves shaking the hips and bum. It’s a modern version of an African dance called Mapouka that originated in Côte d'Ivoire (i.e. Ivory Coast) in West Africa. Twerk is routed in Black culture and is a celebration and liberation of the body. Read more about twerk history

  • This really depends on you. How much you practice and how quick of a learner you are. One thing I will say is that if this is completely new for you, take your time. Twerking is a workout, as much as it is a dance. You’ll build up your strength, flexibility and stamina as you progress. Progression over perfection is the goal here.

  • YES! It’s important to understand its origins but also appreciate that different cultures may have their own variations. Twerk moves can be found in many genres but commonly Afro, Afrobeats, Dancehall, Soca, Brazilian Funk, Reggaeton, Rap, Hip Hop, RnB and so much more.

  • Of course. Twerking does not discriminate. Anyone can learn to twerk and it doesn’t matter about your age, body type or gender. You can learn to twerk with practice and dedication.

  • This is a huge misconception. Yes having a big bum will emphasize a lot of the movement, but twerking is about technique and not size. You can have a big bum and not really know how to use it. There is no specific body type required to twerk. Twerking can be adapted to different body shapes and sizes. It's more about rhythm, movement, and muscle control.

  • Remember twerking is exercise, so it’s important to listen to your body. Always start with basic movements, and take your time to progress to more complex ones. Don’t forget to warm-up before and cool down after practicing. Please follow the instructor's guidance for proper technique, and if something feels off, then stop immediately. If you experience extreme or on-going pain after a class, please seek medical advice.
